The attack chained three techniques: Parameter 2 Prompt injection to feed malicious instructions through URLs, Double-request to force Copilot to perform actions by repeating requests, and Chain-request to issue follow-up instructions from an attack server. What made Reprompt particularly dangerous was its stealth – user- and client-side monitoring tools couldn’t detect it, and it bypassed built-in security mechanisms while disguising the data being stolen.

Microsoft’s Response and the Broader AI Security Landscape

California Attorney General Rob Bonta opened an investigation into xAI, stating: “xAI appears to be facilitating the large-scale production of deepfake nonconsensual intimate images that are being used to harass women and girls across the Internet.” Elon Musk responded: “I am not aware of any naked underage images generated by Grok.
